Sexual and Gender-based Violence and Language Rights

Workshop for NLEAP Staff

Continued training on aspects of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) and the links with Language Rights is part and parcel of NLEAP’s learning and development plan for its team. The recently concluded workshop on Sexual and Gender Based Violence and Language Rights helped the NLEAP team better grasp how inequal access to language rights can impact and influence the vulnerability of women to sexual and gender-based violence.

The interactive session was conducted by NLEAP’s own Gender Specialist Ms. Saama Rajakaruna. Mr. M. Thirunavukarasu, Deputy Director (NLEAP) shared with the team an overview of the legal framework that govern cases of Sexual and Gender Based Violence. The understanding gained from this workshop is invaluable especially as the team works alongside Government Institutions to develop language plans that address such inequalities.
