NLEAP in partnership with the Department of Languages (DOL) conducted a five-day training programme for translators. 26 Government translators were able to further enhance their translation skills at the training held at the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute from the 22nd to the 26th of March. The programme was facilitated by professional translators, well renowned in the field of translation for their commitment to build up the professionalism of Translation Services in Sri Lanka. This training programme forms part of the Technical Assistance provided by NLEAP, in partnership with the DOL, to the government to provide effective gender-sensitive bilingual public services. Such training programmes play an important role in ensuring that women and men of diverse communities are served in the official language of their choice.
The Workshop concluded with 26 participants receiving certificates for having successfully completed the five-day training. They voiced their appreciation to DOL and NLEAP for providing for such opportunities to further their training and sharpen their skills.
NLEAP will continue to work very closely with the DOL to conduct similar capacity building programmes that will help strengthen translation and interpretation services in Sri Lanka, by producing skilled, professional translators.
